Mattie Moore Raines

Mattie Moore Raines was born December 19, 1935, to the late Ella Mae ‘William” Moore and the late Joe Brown Moore.

Mattie was a devoted mother. She taught her children the ways of the Father in heaven. She nurtured her children with the love of Christ, disciplined them with care and wisdom and trained them in the way they should go.

She loved the Lord with all of her heart. She used the words found in Philippians 4:13 as her daily motto: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Mattie was a virtuous woman of God who was very involved in her community in Quitman, GA. She served those in need with a gentle and loving spirit. She had an inner beauty that only comes from Christ.

On Thursday, May 30, God put His arms around Mattie, granting her eternal rest and whispered, “Peace be thine”.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one son: Larry Hicks; one sister: Cora E. Smith and six brothers: Joe Moore, Gene A. Moore, Jessie B. Moore, Paul L. Moore, Walter G. Moore, and Charles Moore.

Left to celebrate her life and to remember cherished memories are her three children: Henry Raines, Jr. of Augusta, GA; David Raines and Phyllis Raines, both of Valdosta, GA; and Curtinka “Nika” Mitchell, whom she raised as her own; four sisters: Callie P. Daniels of Enterprise, AL, Deborah S. Howard (Walter) ,Virginia Moore, and Wilhelmina Henry, all of Miami, FL; last surviving brother: Kenneth Moore of Miami, FL; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law; a special friend: Pecolia Pratt of Quitman, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

The Celebration of Life for the late Ms. Mattie Moore Raines will be Saturday, June 8, 2019, 11:00 a.m., River Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 2884 James Road, Valdosta, GA.

Reverend Joe Troope is the Pastor and will officiate.

Public viewing, Friday, June 7, 2019, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Godfrey Funeral Home.

Interment, Pallbearers Cemetery, Valdosta, GA.
