Mildred was born to Wardell and Bessie Gregory, April 13, 1926. She received her formal education in Brooklyn, New York.
Upon meeting her then to be husband, Charles Smith, Mildred moved to Buffalo, New York in 1950. Times were hard, but Mildred always managed to keep food on the table from the day to day wages Charles provided as an auto-mechanic. In 1987, Charles and Mildred moved to San Diego, California. There the love of her live passed away in 1994.
Mildred then moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she lived until her health failed and she was admitted into a Presbyterian Nursing Home in 2001. She remained there until God called her on December 21, 2013. Mildred always loved to praise the Lord and was a member of Welcome Friend Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia.
Mildred leaves to cherish her memories, two sons: James Smith of San Diego, CA and Garvin Smith of Dallas, TX; one daughter: Donta Taylor of Valdosta, GA; a host of grandchildren: Demetrius, Monte, Serita and Donita Smith, all of San Diego, CA, Herbert III, Desmond, and Isaac Taylor, all of Valdosta, GA, Garvin Smith, Jr. of Buffalo, NY, Syiesha Smith of McKinney, TX, Teneise Renee Smith of Toronto, Canada, Malik Conner-Smith of San Diego, CA, Tina Hunt of Conley, GA and Tanqy DeJesus of Buffalo, NY; and six great-grandchildren: Wesley, Blake, Kyel, Devon, Nevaeh and Jada.
The homegoing celebration for the late Mrs. Mildred Smith will be held Thursday, December 26, 2013 at 11:00am in the Godfrey Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
