Mother Laura F. Williams was born on June 17, 1943 to the late Mr. Walter Thomas and Missionary Louise Sanders Thomas. Our beloved Mother Laura went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at South Georgia Medical Center.
She was educated in the Valdosta City School Systems. In 1964, she was united in marriage to Deacon Curtis L. Williams, Sr. to this union two children were born. She was employed at the Valdosta City Schools and Valdosta State University for 15 years.
After giving her life to Christ in 1960, she joined and served faithfully at Braswell Temple Church of God in Unity for 54 years under the leadership of the late Elder James Braswell, the late Elder Vernell Anderson and Pastor Corey B. Brown. She served on the Usher Board, Choir, Church custodian and one of the head cooks of the church. She was also involved in Home Mission caring for the sick in the church and her neighborhood. In her latter years of service, she was a member of the Mother Board at Greater Mt. Carmel House of God Saints in Christ under the leadership of Elder David Northcutt.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters: Minnie Mae Thomas, Mary Evans, Geraldine Rawls, Suzanna Mitchell, Betty Thomas; Twins: Annie C. and JC Thomas, and brothers: Leroy Thomas, Moses Thomas, Elijah Thomas and Buddy Thomas. She was also preceded in death by her beloved niece, Karen L. Merricks who departed this life on Thursday, January 7, 2012.
She leaves to cherish her memories; her loving husband of 49 years Deacon Curtis Williams, Sr; her children: Curtis Jr. and Sheila Williams, Valdosta, GA; Anthony and Hope Ligon, Orlando, FL; three grandchildren: Jarius Williams, Christopher Williams and Michael Williams, Valdosta, GA; one sister, Barbara (Horace) Merricks, Kirkwood, PA; two goddaughters: Wealthy M. Jones, Valdosta, GA and Loretta Jenkins, Atlanta, GA; three godsons: Pastor J. Bernard Braswell II and Min. A.C. Braswell, Jr. both of Valdosta, GA and Apostle Anthony Parker, Burlington, NJ ; her mothers-in-law: Lucinda Brown, Valdosta, GA and Annie L. Williams, Detroit, MI; six brothers-in-law: Joseph Williams (Mae), Eugene Brown (Arlene), Roland Brown (Debra), William Brown all of Valdosta, GA, Charles Williams (Angela), Los Angeles, CA and Alphonso Williams (Manuelo), Odinburg, Germany; four sisters-in-law: Daisy M. Richards (Herman) , San Antonio, TX, Eugenia Blankumsee of Valdosta, GA, Evangelist Mitchico James, Detroit, MI and Shirley A. Williams, Valdosta, GA; a special god-sister: Evangelist Magalene Brown (Samuel) of Valdosta, GA, her extended family,the Parker family in addition to a host of special nieces, nephews, and friends.
The homegoing celebration for Mother Williams will be held Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 11:00am from the sanctuary of Crossing Jordan Missionary Baptist Church.
Dr. Ronnie J. Mathis is the pastor. Elder David Northcutt will officiate.
Burial will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday, January 20 at the Godfrey Funeral Home Chapel from 5:00pm - 7:00pm
