Mother Mamie Hodge Harmon was born March 21, 1930, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late James and Rosa Hodge.
Mother Harmon loved God and her family. She was patient and kind, gentle, filled with joy, peace, goodness and faith. She loved the Lord with all of her heart, mind, soul and spirit, and sought His will for her life and followed his ways. Indeed, she was a Proverbs 31 woman. As a wife, she respected her husband and did him good all the days of his life as his suitable helpmeet. As a mother, she taught her children the ways of the Father and nurtured them with the love of Christ and trained them in the way they should go.
Not only did Mother Harmon love God and her family, she especially loved her church, Mt. Ararat Baptist Church. She was the last living founder of the church which began in a local residence with a membership of six. As an active and dedicated member of the church, she served as Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher, Choir president, church custodian and Mother of the church.
Mother Harmon was loving and generous. Always willing to help others, when herself should be at rest, she was the kindest of all and now amongst the Heavenly blest. Mother Harmon transitioned from labor to reward, Sunday, August 21, 2016.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband: Lewis Thomas Harmon; one son: Robert Oliver Jr.; and one granddaughter: Takela Scott.
Mother Mamie Harmon leaves her legacy of faith and love to her five children whom she loved dearly: Betty Oliver Daniels of Valdosta, GA, Sharon Rozier (Douglas) of Valdosta, GA, Eltina Baker (Ricky) of Hahira, GA, James Harmon (Joyce) of Valdosta, GA, and Anthony Harmon (Claire) of Atlanta, GA; one step-son: Eddie D. Evans of Boynton Beach, FL; nine grandchildren: Victor, Bethany, Stacey, Douglas II, Tiffany, Robert III, Vita, Anthony II, and Keandrea; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchild; and her Mt. Ararat Church family; and a host of family and friends.
