Mother Odella Lucas-Pearson

On December 18, 1918 in Hahira, GA, the late Robert J. Lucas, Sr. and the late Essie Mae Lucas was blessed with a beautiful baby girl from the Lord. With much thought, they named her Odella Lucas.

She attended the Lowndes County School System and was a graduate of Dasher High School. Having a love for children, Odella continued her education and attended Fort Valley College and received a degree in Elementary Education. Afterwards, she moved to Cleveland, OH and attended Cuyahoga University and received an advanced degree in education. Odella dedicated her life to working with children and spent over 80 years in education.

Odella Lucas became a mature and kind beautiful young lady who met and later became the wife of Richard Allen. To this union was one child born who they named Joyce Allen. After several years of being a widow, she later married Carl Pearson. Odella loved her family and was faithful to serving them in the spirit of grace and care.

As a woman of virtue, Mother Pearson walked with the Lord and knew where all of her help came from. Her spiritual journey was a   testimony to all and encouragement to her church family and the children she served. Being a member of Williams Temple Church of God in Christ, Cleveland, OH, Mother Pearson served the ministry for over 50 years. She faithful gave herself to ushering and was also a Mother in the church. Her soft spoken voice and kindness was healing to the soul. On Friday, February 28th, the Lord gently called Odella to eternal rest from her labor on earth.

In addition to her parents, Mother Pearson is preceded in death by her first husband: Mr. Richard Allen and her second husband: Mr. Carl Pearson; her daughter: Joyce Allen; three sisters: Ora Bell Reynolds, Robbie Dumas, and Lila Brown; and six brothers: Robert Lucas, Jr, Edward Lucas, Mark O. Lucas, Luther Otis Lucas, Ivory   Lucas, Sr. and Curtis Lucas.

Mother Pearson leaves to cherish her memories and to celebrate her life, two grandchildren: Martel Malone and Talena Harris of Cleveland, OH, four brothers: Mayo Lucas, Clifford Lucas (Margie), Arney   Lucas Sr. (Christine) of Hahira, GA, and Lawrence Lucas, Sr. (LaTanya), Seattle, WA; one great-grandchild: Alaina Malone, Cleveland, OH; two additional sisters-n-law: Charlotte Lucas, and Martha Lucas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The Celebration of Life for the late Mother Odella Lucas-Pearson will be Saturday, March 7, 2020 1:00 p.m. from the sanctuary of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 419 S. Ashley Street, Valdosta, GA.

Pastor Curtis Sermons will officiate. Senior Pastor is Bruce L. Francis.

Interment, Lucas Brothers Memorial Garden, 3827 Lucas Richardson Road, Hahira, GA

Public viewing, Friday, March 6, 2020, 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Godfrey Funeral Home.

The family will receive family and friends Friday, March 6, 2020, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Godfrey Funeral Home.
