The life of Mother Irene Mobley Neloms began on November 11, 1928 in Quitman, Georgia.
She was the 5th child of the late Lou Willie Mobley Marshall and Jesse Peterson.
She began a new life as she quietly left this earthly life on July 5, 2014 at her residence in Valdosta, Georgia. She was blessed by God with a long and fruitful life. Mother Neloms was educated in the Brooks County Public School System. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Quaiton “Buddy” Neloms. To this union 11 children were born.
Later the family moved to Valdosta, Georgia.
She helped by supporting her husband and family by working various jobs at Levis-Strauss, Moody Air Force Base, and also owning and managing a Home Day Care Center.
Mother Neloms gave her life to Christ under the guidance and gospel preaching of Elder Daniel and Mother Johnnie Mae Lewis. She became a faithful and dedicated member of the Church of God by Faith. Mother Neloms’ life of Christian love and joy was a blessing to everyone that met her. She was a very patient, loving and virtuous woman of God. She never became tired of well doing for she knew she would reap the harvest if she did not faint or grow weary. Mother Neloms loved her church and gave her love and support unselfishly and most lovingly. She loved to praise the Lord in song and in testimony. One of her favorite songs was “If you live right, heaven belongs to you.”
She was preceded in death by her parents and also her son Kenneth Neloms.
Mother Neloms leaves to cherish and celebrate a life of rich memories a devoted husband of 64 years; Supt. Quaiton Neloms and 10 beautiful children; Shirley Ann Mitchell, Irish Givens, Gwendolyn Neloms, David Neloms(Diane), Joseph Neloms, Elgie Neloms, Quinton Neloms(Vickie), Micheal Neloms (Angie), Marilyn Winding (Ventress), and Latreena Jackson. Four sisters; Darlene Mobley, Merlene Carter, Joyce Greene (Bennie), Mary Williams; Three brothers, Charlie Mobley (Louisa), Jesse Peterson, Edmond Peterson (Ethel); Sister n Laws; Eula Butler (Robert), Maxine Jones, Alberta Brown, Shirleen Jones, and Roberta Ponder. Mother Neloms had 27 grandchildren and 43 Great-grands. Mother Neloms also adopted Elder Larry W. Coffee, Elder Charlie Smith and Elder Timothy Warren as her godsons and Ms. Retha Hester as her God daughter. Mother Neloms was carefully tended to by Ms. Annie “Ruthie” Thomas, her caretaker and along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The homegoing celebration for the late Mother Irene Mobley Neloms will be held Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 12:00pm from the sanctuary of New Life Ministries.
J. Bernard Braswell II is the pastor.
Dr. H. N. Turner will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Mt. Vienna Church Cemetery.
