Mother Lenora Williams Waters was born June 18, 1926, in Newbern, NC, to the late Willie Murry and the late Mary Williams.
Mother Waters was a dedicated wife, mother, mentor, friend and prayer warrior. To her family, she was the epitome of strength. As a Proverbs 31 woman, she was clothed in strength and dignity. She loved and adored all of her children and all the generations born after them. Because of her desire to train them in the way they should go, she was a strong disciplinarian. She opened her mouth with wisdom and the teaching of kindness was on her tongue. Mother Waters possessed a beauty that only comes from God. She was both feisty and sassy with a great sense of humor. Her contagious smile and laughter will never be forgotten. Mother Waters’ compassion and interest in others, through her years of service as a nursing assistant, bus driver for the Dade County Public Schools, and member of The Order of Eastern Star caused her to win the trust and hearts of many.
Mother Waters was indeed a Proverbs 31 woman — a virtuous woman. Given to hospitality, she served in many capacities at her Miami, FL church home, Covenant Baptist Church and upon moving to Georgia, she dedicated her time and service to her Georgia church home, Greater Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
On Sunday, July 21, the Lord called Mother Waters from earthly labor to receive her heavenly reward. In addition to her parents, the late Willie and Mary Williams, she is preceded in death by her husband: James Waters; two children: Eddie B. Waters and Bernice Waters; and her sister: Flossie Bryant.
Mother Lenora Williams Waters leaves in admiration of her legacy of love and faith, to her remaining children: Doris Cephus, Hazel Edgecomb, Betty Jackson, and Richard Waters (Earnestine), all of Valdosta, GA; James P. Waters and Barbara Rivers (Willie) both of Winter Haven, FL and Jackie Waters of Miami, FL; thirty three grandchildren; ninety eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; two sisters-in-law: Maggie Benton and Jimmie Vickers; one god-daughter: Bobbie Johnson; one god-son: Steven Trice; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, her extended church family and friends.
