Larry Perry was born May 2, 1951 in Valdosta, Georgia to the late Ruby Blankumsee. He was educated in the public school system of Lowndes County.
Larry later joined the United States Air Force.
His record of service began in April 1970 He dutifully served his country for over 24 years. Of his twenty four years of active duty, four of those were in Operation Desert Shield/Storm. During his time of service, Larry received several medals, badges, ribbons and awards. His decorations include: AF Commendation Medal, the Distinguished—Presidential Unit Citation, the AF Outstanding Unit Award, AF Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, AF Overseas Short Tour and Long Tour Ribbon, AF Longevity Service Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon and many more. Larry retired in the year 1994 as Retired Msgt Larry Perry.
After retiring from the Unites States Air Force, he chose Dell City, OK as his home and was employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs for 18 years as a Vehicle Operator Work Leader.
In addition to his mother, Ruby Blankumsee, Larry is preceded in death by two brothers: Tyrone Perry and Reginald Blankumsee; grandmother: the late Rosa Perry;grandfather: the late Alexander Perry; three uncles; one aunt and two cousins.
Msgt Larry Perry leaves to cherish his memories, one sister: Barbara Young of Columbus, GA; three nieces: Alex Young, Shanta Young and Kira Young all of Columbus, GA; one great niece: Jael Hall of Columbus, GA; nephew: Marcus Nelson of Valdosta, GA; very close friends: Mark and Wyvonia Bolds of Midwest City, OK; and a host of family and friends around the country.
The homegoing celebration for Msgt Larry Perry will be held Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 1:00pm from the chapel of Godfrey Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
