Peter Wesley Jenkins was August 24, 1931, in Quitman, GA, to the late Preston Jenkins, Sr. and the late Lydia Greene Jenkins.
He attended the Brooks County Public Schools and later went on to serve in the United States Army as a Corporal. Upon his return to Valdosta, he was employed by Rhodes Furniture and Farmers Furniture Company.
He was married to the late Mrs. Virginia Jenkins and to this union five children were born: Bobbie Jean, Gwen, Wesley, George and Hezekiah.
Peter was a active member of St. Phillip AME Church, where he sung in the choir until his health failed.
The Lord gently called him home Friday, June 21, 2013 at South Georgia Medical Center.
Peter leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife: Juanita Williams Jenkins of Valdosta; his children: Bobbie Jean Morris of Valdosta, GA, Gwen Sumlin (Bernard) of Cecil, GA, Wesley Jenkins (Faye), George Jenkins (Debra), Hezekiah Jenkins (Tammy), Linda Moore, and Carl Hill (Alesia) all of Valdosta, GA, Debbie Poole and Gary Poole (Carol) of Tampa, FL, and Leisa Hill Wright (Kenneth) of Greenville, SC; one sister: Edith Willis of Valdosta, GA; two brothers: Edward Jenkins (Jean) of Danville, VA and Preston Jenkins of Charlotte, NC; Twenty eight grandchildren; Eighteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The homegoing celebration for the late Mr. Peter Jenkins will be held Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 11:00am from the sanctuary of St. Phillip AME Church.
Rev. Deborah Sirmans will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
