“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding; in all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5,6
Phillip James, Sr., was born October 19, 1932 in Birmingham, AL, to the late Mary Scott and the late Eugene James Bolden. He received his education in Omaha, GA.
When Phillip was a child, he spoke, understood and thought as a child; but when he became a man, he put away childish things. He was a hard worker and a man of integrity. Phillip James was owner and operator of James and Sons Construction where he later retired. After retiring, he began to sell peanuts and was known to many as the “Peanut Man”.
When not working, he could be found fishing. He was a loving, loyal husband and faithful father. A man of wisdom, he taught his children the value of hard work and having good work ethics. He loved, adored, and cared for all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
‘Papa’ was a father to many and gave wisdom and knowledge to all those would listen. But be aware, ‘Papa’ didn’t take no mess. He was a man who would take a stand and tell you what was right. He was smart and had a lot of heart. He would do his part when life got hard. Through good and bad times, no matter what. His family could count on him being there.
On Sunday, January 11, 2015, surrounded by his family, the Lord declared, “It is finished” and granted Phillip eternal rest.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one daughter: Shebra “Becky” James.
Phillip James, Sr., leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Carolyn F. James of Valdosta, Georgia; his children: Mary J. Johnson (Kenneth) of White Plains, Maryland, Phillip James, Jr., (Myra) of Weatherford, Texas, Gloria Moore (Paul) of Valdosta, Georgia, Sundra James Washington of Valdosta, Georgia, and Jehoshaphat James (Vanessa) of Tallahassee, Florida; a loyal brother in- law: Moses Cooper; a dear nephew: Pastor Eddie Hentley (Bernice); close and dear friend: Charles Manning; and a host of family members, god-children and friends.
The celebration of life for the late Mr. Phillip James, Sr. will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 2:00pm from the sanctuary of Beulah Temple Apostolic Church.
Dr. James P. Miller will officiate.
