Mr. Raymond Mack Carter, fondly called “Ray”, was born October 18, 1944 in Valdosta, GA to Mrs. Irene Johns Carter and the late Mr. Tommie Carter.
Ray was educated in the Lowndes County Public School System and was Valedictorian of the 1963 graduating class of Westside High School. He furthered his education and graduated from Morris Brown College, Atlanta, GA, in 1973. His educational endeavors includes General Motors Institute of Flint, MI and Tuskegee University of Tuskegee, AL.
Ray was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Professionally, he was employed by McDonald Douglas, now known as Boeing, as an administrator. He was also employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier; City of Valdosta as a Water Analyst; and at the Air Force Academy as a Material Facilities Specialist. Of his many successes, he completed the course entitled Production and Inventory Control developed by Advance Systems Inc. as presented by Aeronutronic Division.
Ray was a very handsome and intelligent man. Showing himself friendly, he never met a stranger. He loved and cared deeply for his family, but most importantly, he loved God. He was member of Payton AME Church where he worshiped faithfully until his health failed.

Left to cherish Ray’s memories and contributions are his mother: Irene Johns Carter of Valdosta, GA; one sister: Vivan C. Harper of Valdosta, GA; one brother: Douglas Carter of Valdosta, GA; one uncle: Gunto Johns of Indiantown, FL; his two nieces: Amanda Harper of St.Louis, MO and Valerie Harper along with her children (Tamia, Brandon, and Chansang); and a host of special cousins, family, friends, and the brotherhood of Alpha Phi Alpha.
The celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 11:00am from the sanctuary of Payton AME Church.
Rev. Vivian Green will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Payton AME Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends, Friday, May 27, 2016 from 6:00-8:00pm in the Godfrey Funeral Home Chapel.
