A time for birth: MRS. ROBERTHA LAWRENCE, the oldest daughter of the late Thomas Hamilton Sr. and the late Mary Johns Hamilton, was born in Worth County Georgia on January 7, 1940. She was a native of Valdosta, Georgia, and she resided in Valdosta for over seventy years. She resided in Augusta, Georgia with her daughter, Caffee Wright and son-in-law, Curtis Wright at the time of her death. She graduated from the Valdosta Public School System. She retired from Levis Strauss after thirty-two years of service. Robertha believed in arriving on time, and was never late for work.
A time to marry: Robertha was married to the late Robert Lawrence Jr. and to their union they had five daughters.
A time to live: Robertha raised her grandson, Navarro Moore, who was very special to her, and her granddaughter Bryana Beeks was her caretaker for seven months. Robertha was the first person to receive open heart surgery at South Georgia Medical Center at the Dasher Heart Center in Valdosta, Georgia.
Robertha was a dedicated member at Southside Church of Christ in Valdosta, Georgia. She loved her church family, and they returned her love. She believed in arriving early for worship and was often the first to arrive for Sunday School. She enjoyed gardening, home decoration, crocheting, and sewing. She loved life, and she had a special connection to people. She loved her family and was a Christian who fought to the end.
A Time to die: Robertha transitioned this life on June 29, 2017, in Augusta, GA. Her survivors include five loving daughters: Patricia Moore of Corona, California, Jacquelyn McCormick of Valdosta, Georgia (former caretaker), Caffee Wright (Curtis) of Augusta, Georgia (caretaker), Gwen Thomas, (Freddie) of Hahira, Georgia, and Mary Williams (Lat) of Valdosta, Georgia; two brothers: Freddie Hamilton of Valdosta, Georgia and Thomas Hamilton Jr. (Geneva) of Valdosta, Georgia; three sisters: Dorothy Owens of Valdosta, Georgia, Mary Jean Robinson (Arthur) of Tifton, Georgia, and Rosa Mae Jones of Valdosta, Georgia; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Robertha is preceded in death by two sisters: Shirley Anne Hamilton and Christine Sanders; and two special friends: Margaret Graham and Eloise Sherry.
The Celebration of Life for the late Mrs. Robertha Lawrence will be held Saturday, July 8, at 11:00am from the sanctuary of Southside Church of Christ.
Bro. John Iverson is the minister and will officiate.
Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Public viewing will be held Friday, July 7, from 10:00am until 8:00pm at Godfrey Funeral Home.
