A time to be born:
Ronnie was born to Mrs. Eva M. Jones and the late Mr. Jake Adkins Sr. on Dec. 21, 1959 in Lowndes Co.
A time to live:
Ronnie graduated from Lowndes High School in 1979. Ronnie contributed much to the reputation of Lowndes High in the areas of academics, leadership and sports. He was a Senior Superlative and President of his graduating class. Later he attended and graduated from NorthEastern State University in Oklahoma. In pursuit of his dreams, Ronnie was employed by Hahira Middle School and the Valdosta City Schools and became “Coach Adkins”. During his tenure, he received many awards, honorable recognitions and contributed much to the success of The Valdosta High School Wildcats. During 1990 through 2009, the VHS Wildcats received the title of Georgia AAAA State Champions, National High School Champions and 1-AAAAA Champions State Finalist; 1995—Coach Adkins was named Region Coach of the Year by the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association and in 2009—Coach Adkins received an Award of Appreciation from the Valdosta Touchdown Club for his dedication and support.
A time to “Fly Away”:
Coach Adkins made his life ending transition on Friday, October 29 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was preceded in death by His father: Jake Adkins Sr; Brother: Jake Adkins; Grandmother: Abby Knight; Aunts: Abby Grace Knight, Annette Adkins and Jessie Brown; Uncles: Clarence Howard Jr, Johnny Will and William Adkins.

Carter; Five Sisters: Annie Jewell Harris and Cora Lane of Clyattville, GA, Odessa (Uster) Anthony, Carolyn Campbell of Valdosta, GA and June Adkins of New Jersey; Five Brothers: Ralph (Laverne) Moss, Winston (Cheryl) Bivins, Brooks Bivins and Cleveland Adkins of Valdosta, GA, Clarence Moss of Tallahassee, FL and Kenneth Adkins of Irving, Texas; Seven Aunts: Margaret Jackson, Clarinece Howard, Della Howard, Nellie M. Knight, Ruth H.(Homer) Johns, Linda Demps and Mary J. Knight; Four Uncles: Willie B. (Geneva) Knight, Claude (Bobby) Howard, Mose Howard and Nathaniel Knight; Special Friends: Shalonda Harris Walthour, Barbara Cunningham, J.C. Cunningham, Karen Cook, Marilyn Johnson and Tracy Jackson-Williams, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends in addition to the Staff and Faculty of the City of Valdosta and Lowndes County School Systems along with former and present students.
Funeral services for Coach Ronnie A. Adkins will be on Saturday November 6, 2010, 1:00 p.m. from the auditorium of the Performance Arts Center, on the north campus of Valdosta High School, 3101 N. Forrest Street, Valdosta. Pastor James White will be presiding and Pastor David Adams will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Public viewing will be today from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at Godfrey Funeral Home, 636 River Street, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Public viewing will resume on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sympathy may be expressed by signing the online registry at www.godfreyfuneralhome.net. Godfrey Funeral Home, LLC of Valdosta, GA is in charge of the arrangements.
