Ruther Mae Thomas

Ruther Mae “Ruth” Thomas was born in Bellville, FL on November 19, 1931 to the late Taylor Mitchell, Sr. and the late Queen Ann Jenkins Mitchell.

Ruth was known and loved by many. She had a warm spirit and never encountered a stranger. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and friend whose laughter will be missed by all that knew her.

On Friday, November 22, 2019, Ruth was granted eternal rest. Resting where no shadows fall, in peaceful sleep she awaits us all.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband: Andrew Johnson, Sr.; her two infant sons; her husband of five years: Paul Thomas; her brothers: Taylor Mitchell, Jr, and Bernard Mitchell; and her stepmother: Hilda Mitchell.

Ruth leaves to cherish her memories: her devoted daughter: Patricia Johnson of Valdosta, GA; her beloved son: Andrew Johnson, Jr of Lithonia, GA; her grandchildren: Corey Robinson of Baltimore, MD, Shameaka Butler (Christopher) of Okinawa, Japan, Saundra Eldridge (Spencer) of Valdosta, GA, and Andre Johnson of Lithonia, GA; her great grandchildren: Carissa Robinson, Christopher Butler, Jr., Christionna Butler, Alannah Eldridge and Ahmad Eldridge; her brother: Andrew Mitchell of Sanford, FL; her sister: Rev. Lisa Coleman of Brooklyn, NY; her sister in-law: Geneva Mitchell of Sanford, FL; her dear cousin: Rosetta Fields of Sanford, FL; her special friends: Mary Frances and Luke Johnson; and a host of treasured nieces, nephews, cousins.

The Celebration of Life for the late Mrs. Ruther Mae Thomas will be Saturday, November 30, 2019, 11:00 a.m., Payton A.M.E Church, 6652 Jumping Gully Road, Valdosta, GA.

Interment, Payton A.M.E. Church Cemetery, Valdosta, GA.

Public viewing, Friday, November 29, 2019, 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., Godfrey Funeral Home.
