The Reverend Roy James Brown, Jr. was born February 25, 1956 in Opa-Locka, Florida, to the late Hattie Lee Jenkins-Brown and the late Roy James Brown, Sr.
Receiving and accepting the charge to serve this present age, Rev. Roy J. Brown Jr. entered the United Sates Air Force on September 26, 1978, and served for 20 years retiring September, 1998. During his time of service he received numerous awards and decorations and was declared a dedicated, durable, and deliberate airman.
Receiving the same charge as given to Timothy by the order of Apostle Paul, God declared, “I charge you, Roy James Brown, Jr., before me and the Lord Jesus Christ, preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.”, he faithfully did the work of ministry while pastoring and serving the following churches: St. James AME of Nashville, GA, Brownwood AME of Brownwood, GA, St. Mark AME of Plains, GA, Mt. Zion AME of Valdosta, GA, Little Bethel of Cairo, GA, St. John AME of Boston, GA, Payton AME of Clyattville, GA, Mt. Vienna of Valdosta, GA, and St. James AME of Adel, GA.
Given to hospitality, he created an inviting atmosphere of warmth and love with a radiant smile and a grand sense of humor while serving the patients and families of South Georgia Medical Center as a volunteer Chaplain.
Rev. Roy J. Brown, Jr. was a man who respected and loved his wife, Vida, of thirty two years and did her good all the days of his life. He taught his children, Romney and Alistair, the ways of the Father in heaven and nurtured them with the love of Christ, disciplined them with care and wisdom, and trained them in the way they should go.
On Wednesday, November 23, 2016, Rev. Brown declared unto the Lord, “For I am now ready to be offered up, and the time of my departure is at hand” and the Lord responded, “you have fought a good fight, you have finished your course, you have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for you a crown of righteousness….enter into thou Master’s joy.”
In addition to his parents, Rev. Brown was preceded in death by his grandparents: Lucious Brown, Willie Mae Williams, James and Janie Jenkins; one brother: Larry E. Brown; one aunt: Evelena Glenn; and one uncle: Lonnie Jenkins, Sr.
Rev. Roy J. Brown, Jr. leaves his legacy of faith and love, to his devoted wife: Vida M. Brown; his two children whom he adored: Romney J.
