Verris Lee Butler

September 17, 1953 — July 10, 2019

Valdosta

Verris Lee Butler was born September 17, 1955, in Valdosta, Georgia, to the late Rhodel and Catherine Mathis Lewis.

Verris, fondly called “Red”, was a caring, loving, and thoughtful person. She always had her family and friends best interests at heart and placed their needs before her own. Verris, met no strangers and she loved people. It is no wonder she would choose a profession that would allow her to create an inviting atmosphere of warmth and love through customer service and cleaning. She was employed by Ramada Inn for over nine years. Verris used her creativity and sense of style to create beauty in her life and the lives of her loved ones. She was indeed a beautiful person with a heart of gold.

Recognizing she needed a Savior, she became a member of the South Side Church of Christ. On Wednesday, July 10th, the Lord granted Verris eternal rest.

In addition to her parents, Verris is preceded in death by her husband: WayLee Butler; one brother, Virgil Lamar Lewis, Sr.; and four sisters: Evelyn Bonner Jones, Carolyn Lewis, Nadine L. Riggins, and Evelyn Nelson.

Left to celebrate her life and to cherish precious memories is her one and only child: Pamela Devon Lewis of Valdosta, GA; her six sisters: Alma Tumer, Doris Callaway, Emma Jean Bonner, Mary Thomas, Evon Watson and Mary Fountain; her brother in-law, Thadeous Riggins; two grandchildren: John Anthony and Jermaine Lewis; two great-grandchildren: Damarion and Stephanie Lewis; a special niece: Tyneah “Juicy” Hayes; her best friend: Johnnie Mae Jones; and a host of extended family and friends.
