Mr. Virgil Lamar Lewis, Sr. was born April 23, 1952, in Valdosta, GA, to the late Mr. Rhodel Lewis and the late Mrs. Catherine Mathis Lewis.
Virgil L. Lewis, Sr. was a man of great generosity with a caring heart of gold. He will be well remembered for his special smile that he graciously gave to all. He showed himself friendly through kindness, patience and lending a hand when he saw someone in need. He was a man of integrity—his family and friends could depend on him to be there for them through good and bad times, no matter what.
Virgil’s family was most important to him. He was a loving father and grandfather who worked hard to provide for his family. A man of strength, he was their protector. When not tending to the needs of his family and friends, he could be found enjoying one of his three favorite hobbies: fishing, hunting and spending time under “The Tree”.
On Saturday, January 13, 2018, a page in the Lewis family book of memories was gently turned and Virgil was granted eternal rest.
In addition to his parents, the late Rhodel and Catherine Lewis, he is preceded in death by his wife: Doris Ann Lewis and four sisters: Evelyn Bonner Jones, Carolyn Preston, Nadine Riggins and Evelyn Nelson.
Mr. Virgil Lamar Lewis, Sr., leaves his legacy of love to his four children: Marcus Nelson, Virgil Lewis, Jr., and Ericka Cooper (Gregory Gary, Sr.) all of Valdosta, GA and Latrell Evans (Anthony Henderson) of Augusta, GA; seven sisters: Alma Tumer of Albany, GA, Doris Callaway, Emma Jean Bonner, Mary Thomas, Verris “Red” Butler, Evon Watson and Mary Fountain all of Valdosta, GA; his grandchildren whom he adored: Deiara Davis (Eric), Seiara Cooper, Joslynn Cooper, Terrence Evans, Jr., Gregory Gary, Jr., Devin Gary, Deshon Gary, Michael Robinson and Terrance Walker all of Valdosta, GA; three great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law; a devoted friend: Johnnie Mae Jones; special friends: Eddie Koonce, Ralph “Poppa” Thomas, Van Thomas, Mike Green, Craig Johnson and his “Tree Family” and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
