Walter “Buddy” Hunter was born April 22, 1942, to the late William Hunter and Marie Burgman Hunter. He was a native of Clyattville, GA and later moved to Bemiss, GA.
“Buddy” was a proud member of Pinevale High School graduating class of 1961 where he played football with the Pinevale Tigers.
He loved to sing and farm. He was a member of Woods Chapel AME Church in Clyattville, GA. He worked for the Paper Mill and the Valdosta Housing Authority for several years. He later became employed with the Georgia Power Company and remained until retirement. After retiring, he realized there was more work to be done and became the owner and operator of his own trucking company, H & H Trucking and retired in 2012.
“Buddy” was granted eternal rest, Monday, December 21, 2015.
In addition to his parents, the late William and Marie Hunter, he is preceded in death by his only son: Walter Kendrick Hunter and four sisters: Willa Marie Hunter-Crawford, Dorothy Johnson, Annie Jewel Hunter-Williams and Ruby Carl Hunter-Simmons.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his lovely and beautiful wife of 53years: Johnnie Ruth (Dump) Cambridge Hunter; one loving daughter: Mrs. Valerie Hunter Moye (Todd); his two beautiful grandchildren: Tolerie and Todd Moye; his two brothers: Wallace Hunter of Greensboro, NC and Charles (Brenda) Stacks of Aurora, CO; one sister: Vernal Jean Morrison (Rufus) of Kingsland, GA; two sisters-in-law: Minnie Gatewood and Dorothy Cambridge of Valdosta, GA; one brother-in-law: Floyd Crawford of Clyattville, GA; six godchildren: Alvin Baldwin, Ricky McKinnon, Nathaniel McKinnon, Eve McKinnon Burgman, Tina (Terry) Quinn and Stephanie Bivins Austin and host of special nephews, nieces, family and friends. He also leaves behind the Clyattville Community, the Bemiss Community, Woods Chapel AME and St. Peter AME Church Family.
The celebration of life for the late Mr. Walter Hunter will be held Saturday, December 26, 2015, at 1:00pm from the sanctuary of Morning Star Baptist Church.
Dr. William C. Morgan will officiate.
Interment will follow in Hunter Cemetery.
Public viewing will be held Thursday, December 24, 2015 from 9:00am - 8:00pm in the Godfrey Funeral Home Chapel.
