Willie Moye Cody, was born March 4, 1931 in Madison, Florida, to the late Mathis and Martha (Mattie) Cody.
He was educated in the public school system and graduated from Dasher High School where he played football and basketball. After graduating, Willie was drafted by the United States Army and proudly served his country in the Korean War and later enlisted in the United States Army Reserve.
Willie was very industrious hard working man. He could build anything and loved to paint. A analytical man of few words, he was a living example of James 1:19 - “let every one be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger.” His quiet and caring spirit brought calm to all those in his presence, especially his family. Willie loved and adored his family. His special smile, quick wit, caring heart, and warm embrace will always be remembered.
Recognizing he needed a Savior, Willie accepted Christ and became a member of St. John A.M.E. where he served on the Trustee Board and president of Usher Board #1.
On Saturday, August 23, 2014, surrounded by his family, the Lord called Willie from labor to reward.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son: Calvin Cody.
He leaves his legacy of love to his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Gussie Marshall Cody; his children: Emily Davis, Sonya (Eddie) Compton, and Regina Cody; his grandchildren: Jefferson (Sharon) Davis, Marquis (Esther) Chachere, Shayla Johnson, Farnesha Cody, Erica (Lemario) Jenkins and Eddie (Joanne) Cumpton III; great-grandchildren: Jordan Davis, Corbin Jenkins, Courtney Jenkins and Dyshaneek Cody; one brother: Johnny Cody (Eloise); two special cousins: Earl Davis and Glen McGee; one special friend: Sidney Ryan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The celebration of life for the late Mr. Willie Cody will be held Saturday, August 30, 2014, at 11:00am from the sanctuary of St. John AME Church.
Interment will follow in the Payton AME Church Cemetery.
